HERITAGE 2022. International Conference on Vernacular Heritage: Culture, People and Sustainability
Mileto, Camilla; Vegas López-Manzanares, Fernando; Cristini, Valentina; García Soriano, Lidia
Vernacular architecture, tangible and intangible heritage of great importance to European and global culture, represents the response of a society culturally linked to its territory, in terms of climate and landscape. Its construction features are born from the practical experience of the inhabitants, making use of local materials, taking into consideration geographical conditions and cultural, social and constructive traditions, based on the conditions of the surrounding nature and habitat. Above all, it plays an essential role in contemporary society as it is able to teach us important principles and lessons for a respectful sustainable architecture. Vernacular Heritage: Culture, People and Sustainability will be a valuable source of information for academics and professionals in the fields of Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Construction and Building Engineering and Architecture.

Il comprend également une réflexion sur le concept et l'histoire de l'architecture de coopération dans le pays, en préambule à la description du projet de coopération au développement mené par l'Universitat Politècnica de València dans la ville de Baasneere.

Through cross-referencing and analysis this book provides an overview of the architectures of the Birifor, Bobo, Dogon, Gan, Kassena, Ko, Lela, Lobi, Mossi, Nuna, Peul, Puguli, Senufo and Tuareg, offering a series of interpretations. It examines habitat, construction materials, elements, space and notions underlying their vernacular architecture, types of buildings and built heritage as well as the weaknesses of their state of conservation and maintenance. It also presents a reflection on the concept and history of cooperation architecture in the country as a preamble to the description of the development cooperation project carried out by the Universitat Politècnica de València in the village of Baasneere.
