University of Lleida, from the Estudi General to the University

The University of Lleida was created through the passing of a law in the Catalan Parliament on 12th December 1991, but its historical roots go much deeper. In 1300 James II bestowed upon the city of Lleida the privilege of founding the first, and for many years, the only Estudi General of the Crown of Aragon.
